    Default Photograms

I recently saw a piece of artwork and the media was "unique C-print-photogram". I understand what a photogram is and even made some many years ago. But this one was in color and it was huge (40 by 30 inches). Has anyone ever made color photograms?

    Thanks,

    bigmike

I have attached an example of a black and white photogram.

    Default Photograms

To all that may not know, traditional black and white photograms are photographs, but they are made without using a camera. Instead, objects are placed directly onto traditional photo paper and exposed to light. That paper is then processed normally and the result is a photogram, where the background will be dark. The spot where objects were laid on the paper will be white or vary in 'whiteness' depending on the opacity of the object.

Photograms can also be created by placing the object in the negative carrier of an enlarger and shining light through it, and then processing the paper.

Colour photograms can be created in the exact same way except you use colour photographic paper.

Some photographers have experimented with extremely large polaroid cameras and photograms. (That may be what you saw Bigmike)

Here is an example of a colour photogram titled Chili Peppers taken by Angela Easterling.

My mistake has been seeking new landscapes. I should have been seeking new light.

Wow... that takes me back. I think I've still got one somewhere that I made using the gears out of an old mantle clock...
