We recently spent a weekend camping at a little lake on the Northern part of the BC/Alberta border. The sunsets were faaaantastic, so I thought I'd share. I'd put them in the critique section, but I like them too much to see them picked apart... :p If you have tips or pointers on sunset pictures though, I'd love to hear them! I'm heading back up there today, for the next 4 days or so, so there will be plenty more photo opportunities. :D

Agreed! These are VERY nice images indeed.
Great job :highfive:

In terms of putting them up in the critique section, yes there would be comments to improve, but IMO they would be minor. These are well done and I am impressed!

Shots 2 and 3 are super shots. Look at the rich colours in shot 2. :highfive:
My main comment for shot 3 would be to have had the boat a little more toward the right side (rule of thirds)...aside from that I wouldn't change much else.

Some great shots and absolutely great exposures particularly 2 and 3. The boat and kids fit perfectly too and the reflections are excellent too.

I may be hard to impress, but I am impressed with these.

Great work. :highfive:

Thanks Travis! I was pretty happy with them... the colors are all boosted just a touch in post-processing. Besides that and a little crop here or there, that's the only change I made.

Thanks a bunch Marko! You guys have really helped me out with speeding up the learning process. I added a shot here that I took with the boat more off to the side.

I very much like that 2nd shot as well Kiley - (though I thing the first one is superior.)

Hey, I am not that old, but I have seen one heck of a lot of totally outstanding photos, so my judgement directly relates to that experience.
By the way, I apply the same pickiness to my own work too. :D:

Come on, Marko. I am sure you will agree that the second shot has much more depth from both the reflection and the sky than the first one and depth is an absolute requirement to avoid a FLAT looking shot.

good job

The first one has great colour and great sky detail and exposure but more dark area and less detail than number 2 overall and that is the important difference.

funny, i thought the 1st boat shot had more depth due to the tree in the foreground... i think it is that tree that makes me prefer the 1st shot... :)

...
*edit*
ok, wait. i re-looked, and can see what you mean by the 'depth' in the reflection & sky.

good job

were you meaning the 1st shot of the batch?
or the 1st shot the 2 boat angles?
(and thank-you!)

Wow, not sure how I missed these. Absolutely top-notch! Sunsets are without a doubt, one of the most overdone subjects in photography, but you've got a group here that is the equal of any I've seen in a very long time. Really excellent work!

OOPS, I meant the first shot of the batch..the red one with the great sky..not the first boat shot.

Perhaps numbering shots in future would help avoid confusion... Just a thought.

and then you took it all away by saying we are talking about different shots. Damn computer freezing before I could post...

I guess it's all good then :)

They belong in a fine arts gallery, imo. I think they run circles around a lot of peoples best shots ever!

My favourites are the first two images but they barely edge out the rest. Like everyone else ... I'm very impressed. http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/hail2.gif

Have to give this effort my own little award http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/1st.gif

Even dragged the wife over for a perve at these! :D

These are very beautiful! I like them all but if have to choose the one I like most, I'd choose the second photo. Having seen these, I've had a meaningful day :)
