My dad recently turned the big "6-5" and we had a bit of a family get-together. Luckily my brother ended up giving me a tri-pod that weekend, so we were able to set my camera up for a photo. This was the gang that showed up for the bbq.

well done.....

how's that D80 on ya?? from the looks of your images lately it looks like it never leaves you hip!!

ps - I know it's not the crit section but someone should have grabbed the little dog and spun him camera way!!!!!

oh well... the rest of em will never know... non-photographers never pick up on that kinda stuff as distraction..

its a permanant attachment now - the nikon. i love it. im learning more and more every time i flick on the power button. :D
and yes, silly weiner. that dog was sitting nicely in another shot, but the people werent as well posed. i took 3 shots, one was not centered well, this one was the best, and a 3rd one we all made silly faces. i have a wacky family...

Nicely done; great B&W conversion.

So, where are you in the photo? Surely, you used the timer. :)

thanks tirediron - i just converted it to b&w using paintshop pro. it makes it less 'messy' with colors, imo. since we didnt plan ahead to color co-ordinate our outfits. :)

tegan - of course i used the timer! otherwise i'm NEVER in a photograph! :p im the one sitting on the ground to the left of my dad (left when looking at the picture, not his actual left), between him and my gramma. my sister is the one on the ground to the right, sitting with her boyfriend. my brothers are standing above & to the right of mom, both with their wives. unfortunatly my hubby & son weren't able to make the gathering. but my daughter is the cutie in the front row! theres also some nephews and big cousins with little kid cousins in there too...

The reason I asked is because I often either forget my tripod or don't think of the timer myself. :):) Family pics are a rarity, since we are seldom together.

Thanks AL - Im making up a framed enlargement for my Dad, so we'll see how he likes it when I give it to him! My Mom was very very happy... :D I know the background leaves a bit to be desired, but it was all we had to work with at the time.

One approach to dealing with such backgrounds is to select it in your editor and then soften it or even blur it out as if it were out-of-focus.
