What $1.2 billion gets you are fascist, lying, ignorant police force with a Chief who should be fired the lying a**hole. And where is our inquiry? I am furious over the excessive and illegal way people were treated, like animals whom most were never even charged with a crime. What utter scumbags our Federal, Provincial, Municipal governments are and police forces from around the country are. Charges should be laid, people should be fired. They turned our city in to Rights free zone and people need to be punished severely. Women stripped searched by male cops, women forced to use bathrooms with the doors removed. I could go on and on. A disgusting display of needless force.

In all honesty AL I agree with you to the point until I see people start looting stores and burning police cars. Then I take exception to the protests. Those people are their simply to break stuff and destroy ****. and I am all for cops using force as necessary in those situations.
I am into peaceful protests and I know there was alot of forceful tactics used by police against peaceful protesters. That I do not agree.
There is a way to get the message across without resorting to vandalism and violence and to keep things peaceful. But to the ones that began looting and torching and destroying property I have take exception to and have no problem with police using force in that situation. The peaceful protests that were treated harshly by law enforcement I have a real problem with as well.
Just my :twocents: :)

You need to see the whole picture, we had 19,000 cops 4 times as many as when London held the event, 5 times more than Pittsburgh. There were cops everywhere they could have stopped a lot of the destruction but they just watched, I mean there was a battalion of riot police not far from where they burned the police cars and they let them go up Yonge Street, why was not some of those 19,000 police the largest ever police presence in Canada unable to dispatch may be a few dozen to stop them. Then on the Sunday where there were no Black Bloc around the police became forceful with the peaceful protesters. The were arresting journalists, beating people, they arrested somewhere over a thousand people and only 4 are considered part of the Anarchists, so we jail 996 mostly innocent people, just to catch maybe 4 people if they are in fact even guilty? Most arrests were made Sunday when it was peaceful. 19,000 cops that terrorized our citizens, arrested innocent people at that point we should have become violent.

Wow....did you see any of this in town?
Sounds like so much for the "right to peaceful freedom of assembly" then as stated in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms....sounds like a few lawsuits might be in the making.
I saw one of the guys they arrested was a lawyer for the Canadian civil liberties union who was observing the protests and the enforcement used. They held him for 18 hours. The whole thing sounds like just a huge cluster-eff on all sides.
I heard about this one as well:

The photo links are not really helpful to tell the stories that need to be told. I am hearing about the bad things that were done on both sides but, of course, the only bad stuff I'm seeing in these images are being done by protesters with their faces covered by masks.

I'm not saying that the cops were good, I'm saying I haven't seen the evidence. Unless that evidence can be seen by people the stories won't be believed. In this day and age of ubiquitous camera and video equipment I find it hard to believe no one recorded the cops doing the wrong thing.

Off to search for just those types of images, videos.

I have to ask...at what point are cities chosen for events like this and WHO decides? and WHO pays?

Every time I read about these G-whatever-number meetings, I always hear of of protests and clashes with police, often violent. I have to wonder WHY any city would want to host this? Surely nobody is asking the citizens...is this correct?

Personally, If I ever had a say in this, I'd say "host it somewhere else....maybe on a nice quiet farm in the middle of buttplug nowhere, not in a major city". Yup that's what I'd say.

Found this video: YouTube - G20 Toronto - Can I See Your ID? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE1UZWrfMJ8)

I am not excusing anything but at the same time you can understand a little bit that the police are extremely paranoid at this time. I guess, though, if you want to perpetrate some nastiness at events like this you would be better off getting a job for Global first ;)

Actually, after watching a couple, the whole channel is worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/user/weavingspider

Out of the mouth's of babes...

After watching several of the Press For Truth videos I can tell you from what I saw the cops looked quite frightened. Kudos to those guys for providing that type of insight.

Canada has a wonderful Arctic. I am sure that when that place would be chosen, the number of protesters would be pretty limited. And the savings in security would be enormous. So we spend a little more to fly them out there .. no biggie ...

Well, my friend, we jumped back in time. The date is now 1984, Orwellian time. It has become clear to me that the ruling class feels the need to subjugate their sheeple. 911/Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan/Gaza/BP oilspill ... just to mention a few. If you connect the dots, it is all and exclusively about money and power. Canada has a wonderful right winged "Yeah Sayer" in Harper, with a minority of the Canadian people standing behind him. Time to vote!

Harper picked Toronto it was all supposed to be held in a Small Ontario town Called Huntsville they realized there was no way to house and look after all the media, Government Officials and so on for the G20 and the G8 was held at the original site. So our Grand Moron Harper picked Toronto and our Mayor suggested the Exhibition grounds would have been much easier and far less costly to secure but Heir Harper did not want to listen to us. So we taxpayers pay for those 19,000 cops. I hooked up with some old political friends and we are demanding an inquiry into this. SO whose is to blame in the end, all those who voted for the Reform Party, ooooops Conservative Party. As a resident of Toronto I am outraged with all of this. They shut down our city and tried their best to make in a rights free zone the MoFo fascists. If you have not figured out I am Furious, and time to start a sh** storm.

Huge overbearing police presence all thru the event, but when a select few people started looting and burning, the police suddenly disappear and do nothing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5G7aCgXtWg).

The only times the police were aggressive and started laying the smack down were when people were protesting peacefully (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Heb9BXjYcII), or not protesting at all. The only people beaten/detained/trapped by police were either peaceful protesters, media, or local residents who were simply walking through the area.

It's as if the police were less concerned about controlling violence and destruction and more concerned about controlling peaceful protests and the media.

It is great then that increasing photo and video among the general populace helped expose the police actions during this event, just like it exposed the Rodney King beating.

Exactly! Fly them to a remote spot for these "meetings". These world leaders don't even see the protesters nor do they care what they have to say. If you really want to protest what your government does , then VOTE! Become active in a powerfull lobyist group and influence change.

I can't comment or dwell on this for long tonight because I'll SNAP!! Having said that, I do find it funny that the attitude of the police seems to be "Go ahead, break anything you want....It'll come out of your own pockets anyway be it tax hikes or higher prices. Do whatever makes you happy, BUT....STAY AWAY FROM THE PUPPET MASTERS!!!!"
I enjoyed the link to the shots but I'm biased because I love that site:) I'm always hoping we'll sort all this out before the wheels fall off but I'd bet the rest of my life starting tomorrow we won't Thanks for the thought provoking post AL!
