Think Kangaroo ... but much smaller :)

This little Pademelon was on the Russell Falls track at Mt Field, Tasmania.
These are a little macropod of the marsupial family. About the size of a large house cat or basketball.

Great catch! Never heard of them before, are they rodents?

Kangaroo's are usually thought of only with the two large ones most people see ... the Red and the Grey roo's. However, Wallabies are just a smaller species of roo and Pademelons are smaller again. We see Pademelons here in Qld as well ... I saw one yesterday while in the rain-forest above the Gold Coast. Very cute little guys and sometimes quite tolerant of people.

Awww, he is a cute thing. Do people feed them the way some folks feed ducks and geese?

Occasionally there are Pademelons that will take food but usually they are too shy. But the slightly bigger Wallies can often be fed around picnic areas etc.
