Was this done with a tripod?

oh yeah. i shoot 99% of my landscape stuff from a tripod. sometimes if the light is really good, i'll shoot freehand, but since i rarely shoot "open landscapes" at midday if i can help it - most of my shots that time of day are back in the woods - the tripod is a pretty essential part of my kit.

Yea, I do most of my landscapes freehand.. Its a lot more difficult but I never see to have my tripod with me when I am out shooting. Never think of it.

I have a backpack camera bag but its still not big enough for a tripod :(

i usually shoot with my 5D on the tripod 99% of the time, so when i'm heading out, i just mount the camera and stick the whole thing in the back seat, along with a small bag with some filters, extra batteries and memory, etc. i don't usually even bother with a second lens, since the 24-135 covers 99% of the shots i'd want to take shooting landscapes anyway. i've gotten used to carrying the tripod on my excursions, and frankly, it's saved my butt a few times - comes in handy as an ersatz hiking stick in some of the out-of-the-way, ought-not-go-there places i wind up... ;)
