Thanks all; weird thing is: I have no idea why the second one shows the splashes the way it does .... and Greg: you gotta come over an show me how ...

It looks like the angle in relation to the light source to me. And that, on top of using an aperture priority or auto mode may have sped the shutter speed up as well.
