I upgraded all my Adobe software Monday, I have Lightroom 3 and I have Adobe CS5 Master Collection now also. I have to say Lightroom 3 is much less of a resource hog, runs better, faster and just now learning what the new features are but it is a winner hands down. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for good easy, fast photo editing and organizing your photos. I have CS5 Bridge but it pales into comparison to LR3.

I also think Photoshop CS5 is so much better than CS4 and I think there is enough new updates to justify getting the upgrade for PS. I found PS CS3 and CS4 were very close and I regretted paying to upgrade to CS4. I am still playing with all the software and now I finally can redesign all my websites just after I learn all the new features in Dreamweaver and Fireworks. I think Master Suite CS5 is overkill for most people and very, very expensive but so far all Adobe CS5 software I have tried is worth upgrading any of your Adobe products to the newer CS5 version. Over the many generations of Adobe software I do not update my software as I find on certain updates it just is not worth the money, this time Adobe is on the ball.

Thanks for the review. I've been after my other half to get CS5.

I am using CS5 as well and it rocks. I also use cs5 Bridge.

I have CS5 Bridge but it pales into comparison to LR3.

Can you tell me why you think this is so A.L. ? Am i really missing something using only Bridge?

Many thx!

I think that Lightroom out performs Bridge, Camera Raw, and does a much, much more and because it’s a whole workflow tool and which is its strength, it’s for managing all your photos even thousands of them, and processing new photos in the fastest, most efficient mode as far I have experienced. You are using five separate modules such as,The Library, The Develop Module, The Slideshow Module, The Web Module, and the Print Module. It is just superior in every way and 99.9% of the time it is all I use for any photo editing I do.

After I found LR I gave up everything else. It rocks.

LR3 is so intuitive, and using less resources than CS5.
The noise reduction it's the best comparing with Aperture or others software. CS5 looks to me way to complicated and you can do same things (regarding photography) with LR3.
You don't need to open lots of layers and play with them, because LR3 is editing a copy, the original remain untouched.
Anyway, I try it almost tow years ago, and since then is my main software for photo editing.

Thanks everyone - I'll have to try it....

Just curious, with LR3, it's still just basic editing right? (meaning curves/levels colour correction, sharpening, funky presets)
No layer masks right? Those are huge for me.
I'm also a HUGE fan of selective dodging/burning, for that type of work I'll still need PS right?

Thx everyone!

LR gives you non destructive editing, as well as the basic curves etc, it has a selective brush tool that can be used for exposure, clarity, brightness, saturation, vibrancy, etc. It's also got clone tool, which make it good for quick basic editing.

Photoshop is a definite asset, LR3 in no way replaces certain features that you get with PS. It depends on what you want to do with your photos, any beginner to intermediate photographer is better off with a PS type program then LR3 as a first editing program and those who like to PS in general and for photo manipulation LR3 is in no way going to replace PS. Just for many you can get away with LR3 for most of their basic photo editing.

I am +++ huge fan of LR3. Between that and the Nik software plugins for LR3 ( Viveza, Silver Efex, Dfine etc) , I essentially use nothing else now. Could not be happier with the product. :)
