View Full Version : Autopaint,plug-ins and filters

What is the difference between these pieces of software? I am looking for autopaint software that I can manipulate a bit to have some control over. My skills are not that of a painter but an average amateur photographer yet I want to have a bit of control over the final look. Which of these do you think would allow me this control yet still do most of the work for me? As you can tell I am a novice at this aspect of photography and need some help before I make my selection. I have already bought PE4 because I got it for $12 so even if it isn't what I want there is no big loss. Your suggestions, advice and explanations are gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

hi there,

First off, a filter is part of the actual software you use, it's included and using them provides different effects for your photography. Personally, I almost never use filters.

A pluggin is a product often made by a 3rd party that adds extra functionality to the software you are using. They can be very very useful and there are tons of choices.

The only painting program that i have some experience with is painter 11; it's awesome, but there's a learning curve.

Hope that helps - Marko

Thank you Marko. I put a new image up in the digital section of my site that was done with GMX. All of my images are shot in Raw and need to be converted into jpg for me to use PE4. Once I have done that I will start posting them but for now there are other priorities that require my attention, that of painting the exterior of the house. It isn't the kind of painting I wish to do....lol. Thank you, again.
