So another forum in which I belong has started a thread called "Single in September" with the idea being to take only one photo every day of the month using only one lens. I signed up so I think this may be my Ironman Canada if I can last the month doing it. I am going to start a thread in General photography and add to it as I try to do the month.
Feel free to join me for the challenge if you feel like it...it would be awesome to see if anyone else feels like participating. I am curious to know how or if my photography will change by the end of the month if I last it.
Wish me luck...I will need it for sure! :headslap: :fingerscr

Where does the luck come in? Trying to take a shot every day for a month or trying to use a single lens for a month? I've tried a Project 365 - twice - and didn't make it. A month sounds pretty easy at this point ;)

I'd be willing to join you. Start a new thread tomorrow with your first shot and I'll be happy to match you to give you a "shootin' buddy" as long distance as I am :)

 Excellent iggy!! :highfive:
I agree about the 365...but I am a multi- image junkie who owns several lenses so it will be really hard for me to take only one shot...especially if I see something interesting and commit to only using one lesn...my 18-55 kit lens I will use close up lenses and filters if necessary as it is allowed.
I will start a thread tomorrow in General Photography...Anybody else in? I think we may have some fun here! :goodvibes

Well I've only got 2 decent lenses - the nifty fifty and my new 70-300. It's easy for me to leave the 70-300 on. :)

Well, I'm only half out. I'll have a shot a day on one lens... just not "only one" shot per day. That would kill me at this point I think :yuck:

Cool. You are welcome to do the challenge as you see fit Ig. Either way I welcome the company and companionship! :highfive:

I don't want to be contradictory to your challenge but I can't see how limiting yourself to one shot per day improves your photography. Is it forcing you to spend more time thinking about the shot? It just seems cruel to me!

In any event, we are a group of two so far... :grouphug:

I guess the idea is to really think about a shot before you take it. I guess it is the same as fasting, quitting smoking or anything else that involves discipline and strong will really.
I just got in and wow all I can say is that it is way harder than I anticipated. I already cheated b/c I took two as the first one was just so sucky I could not bring myself to keep it. But I am going to be gentle with myself and keep trying as hopefully this will bet a bit easier. If not I can always just bail which in all honesty I have no problem with.

I guess after seeing people not only participate, but complete Ironman Canada with artificial legs and visual impairment, this really is not as big a deal in the scheme of things

B...you are welcome to join in any way you see fit. If it goes against what you normally do then by all means do it. Force yourself to only take 5 shots or use manual or do something you don't normally do for the month. Whatever it is I guess it is about challenging yourself for the month.

I'll have a go at doing one shot in manual mode every day - I only got my dslr two weeks ago, so it should definately teach me something new!

Another idea would be to take as many as you like per day but process only one shot per day for the whole month....that's it, that's all.

Perhaps an idea for those who have to use their cameras for projects or work is to put a lens on a backup camera and use that as their one photo per day? it's not strictly sticking to the idea but it's a compromise.

That works also...I think it might be even better to make this a "do whatever challenges you and your discipline/willpower in one particular way photographically speaking", go for it and feel free to post in the http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f3/single-september-11639.html#post81295 Thread.
It will be interesting to see how those who choose to participate (please state your personal challenge in the thread so we know what you have chosen to do for the month) document their results and findings as they start the journey. Fell free to vent, rant, rave, ask, advise etc, there also as we can support each other as we go along. :)

Okay so after re-reading the rules, I can take more than one shot as long as it is using the one lens. The concept is to get intimate with one single lens rather than only taking one shot. So, that being said I am going to switch to my 10-17mm fish eye as that is the lens I am least familiar and experienced with. I will take at least one shot every day for the month of September that lens and post one shot. Also this way I can do all the assignments here and there as well. :highfive:
Phew....... I feel better. The only taking one shot part was so damn hard that I am certain I would not last the month. :o
So now off to find my first fish eye shot!

I only have one lens, so that wouldn't be much of an issue for me. My main problem is that the photography during lunch keeps me sane. But I'm willing to cheer everyone on, and I'll bet I learn a thing or three in the process.

This is something I couldn't do. Passing up an opportunity because you already took your shot would be painful. I could see saying I have to take at least one shot with this lens each day. Since you own more than one lens challenge yourself to pick a subject and take a shot of it with each of your lenses and do this everyday.
