My challenge is that I am using one lens...my 10-17mm Fish eye lens (the one I am the least familiar with and find most technically challenging to get right) and taking a shot every day for the month of September with this lens.
Here is my day 1 shot..... I have envisioned this one for a while now and want to do a version in every season. I thought it may be a good one to start with. I do think my DoF choice was a bit too shallow so I think I will give it another go with a larger DoF next time.

Anybody else feel free to tell us about your personal challenge and add your day one shots! :highfive:

Good on ya for trying this Casil!
It's a VERY tough one to do as we can see by this first shot; which is decent, but begs for a few more selective depth of field shots.

Thanks Marko. I now have switched lenses and revised my version of the challenge. :)

My challenge is to take a shot in manual mode every day.
Since it was quite late in the day when I decided to take part, I went for a shot from my bedroom window. However, getting the shot to look halfway decent proved quite a challenge!

Nice one Odyssey! It seems a tad bright IMO so I would drop the exposure down by a 1/2 stop or a even a full stop. That way this would bring out the beautiful skies colours, accentuate the cloud detail and strengthen the dark shadows that I can see in the photograph. Also in this case, it seems to me that the really beautiful sky is the main player here so if it were me, I would perhaps try to include more sky and less horizon. I think you have a lovely shot here regardless. :)
Hope that helps....

Lovely capture, Iggy! I think I would like to join in if no one minds. :) I will be using the Nikon D60 with the 35mm 1.8 lens attached. Since the lens is so fast, I will try to do only natural light or available light captures as much as possible.
The Nikon D300 which is out of the running but which I still have to use for work, etc.
http://www.photography.ca/Forums/members/jas_photo/albums/one-camera-one-lens-one-photo-per-day-september/9182-september-1.jpg
Exif data is Nikon D60 at 1/160 f2.8. A 4T close up filter is attached.
I started an album in my profile for the project. I hope there is enough space on there to load 30 photos! I thought it might be a nice idea if anyone else wants to do it then we can look at each persons daily photos altogether

Okay for day 6, I got up at 5:30am and headed out for some morning photography...was a bit chilly this morning:

The nice thing about this lens, is that you can make really trippy abstracts with the curves or you can make nice wide angles that don't curve so much. Use the longer end of the lens (10mm) and you get the curves, use the shorter end and not so much. Mid range I find is a really nice "best of both worlds". :)

Lisa this is brilliant. I like this one the best of all the web photos you posted today. The larger drops bring the out of focus area into focus. This will win you a prize in a contest sometime IMO. Mike

Day 18 - Over the Edge
Got the opportunity to go shoot the Easter Seals' Drop Zone today. This was the view I got as I leaned out over the edge of the building. Don't worry, I was in a harness :)

really neat view Iggy. What building were you hanging from?
Iguanasan
09-19-2010, 10:07 AM
No, I wasn't allowed to the the rappelling. You have to raise $1500+ to get the opportunity to rappel down the side of the building. I did, however, climb up and stick my head and camera over the side to get shots of them as they went down. This is 1801 Hollis St. building. 87 meters high or 285 feet in the air. Honestly, it freaked me out a bit. :)
Oh, and I have to admit, this isn't my 70-300mm lens :(

Day 21...9 more days to go...Final countdown. Lillydale Chicken processing plant and the trailer cages they keep the chickens in on the way to meet their maker and become dinner.
I just about hurled trying to get this shot..the smell of dead chicken/meat/carcass was everywhere...can't really describe how bad it was.. but it was about as horrible as you can imagine. I guess you had to be there.
It's a dark and dreary day here in Calgary and today I wanted a shot that would reflect that.

Thanks! I must say, it's really hard. As much as I love making images I really find there are just some days you don't want to pick up the camera and you feel uninspired. I'm not sure that forcing yourself to pick up the camera on those days is a good thing.

Yeah...the last couple of days have been tough on me as well. Sometimes I just want to take a break from shooting so in that way it has been a bit draining. However, I have learned so much about this lens and the way to use it. It is far from as gimmicky a lens as everybody seems to think it is and I think the photos I've posted over the last 23 days have proven that it really is much more versatile than people think. :)

I also have 3 days worth of photos. I was travelling this weekend and didn't have a lot of opportunity to shoot. Also, this is a bit of a fail as not only did I not use my 70-300 but I ended up using my Canon Powershot point and shoot because it was just so much easier to carry around. It was a karate weekend (see the last shot).

I have always admired this Cougar.
And Francois Langlois:
http://www.photography.ca/Forums/members/jas_photo/albums/one-camera-one-lens-one-photo-per-day-september/9831-september-30-francois-langlois.jpg
Francois was giving a presentation at the club about his Mt. Everest expedition. None of the organizers had a camera and they wanted a couple of photos. Well I more or less got volunteered to take the them. I only had the little Nikon D60 with the 35 mm lens and no off camera flash, with me. I had to pop the ISO up to 400 and with a shutter speed of 1/60 and F stop of 4 had enough light but the quality is not great.
If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, I recommend it, he is very interesting with lots of little anecdotes about Nepal. :)
