'What is in your scrap bin' influenced by http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f22/what-would-you-do-perforated-piece-metal-11850.html#post82815 I think it would be great to see how creative people can get with stuff that most of us would discard. I know it's early for the suggestion, but this idea seems just to good to forget.

I was about to remind you that it's only September 15th but then I saw your wonderful suggestion and agree that it sounds too good to forget. :)

It's an early idea, but i like it!

What is in your scrap bin Wow, that would be a hard and BIG decision to make ;-)))). Very nice idea.

we're much closer to october now! gasp. obviously the trees turning fall colors is a classic theme. But how about pairing that with another subject - man made or natural?

Problem with a fall colour theme is the form is international some places it is spring.

Can I modify the idea a bit?
How about doing a What's in your waste basket? ie... recycled, junk, leftovers, garbage, type theme?
Just a thought.....:)

Ok everyone suggestion posts merged and the theme this month is What's in yr scrap bin/waste basket/junk drawer. The goal here is to see how creative people can get with stuff that most of us would discard.

Thx Greg for the wonderful suggestion.
Ok then who will post first?
thx - Marko

In honor of Greg I opened up my junk drawer. Here is a look of what's in there

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4145/5042450741_86d6a957d1_z.jpg

So then I took out the box with the offering envelops, the eraser, the staple remover and the tweezers. The tweezers are used to give the offering envelopes a bit of a tilt, and the staple remover and the eraser became a symbolic thing: fangs and the monolith .... so here is

My (first) Offering

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/5043073722_4741a8d1fc_b.jpg

Did not think that a staple remover and an eraser would make such a ferocious sight:

In the Fangs

Pulled out the magnifying glass, the stone - already had the staple remover. The latter became some sort of holder for the magnifying glass, and behind it was the stone. With a little light it became

An orbiting moon, perhaps?

With the stone still behind the magnifying glass, I noticed that this old scratched magnifier actually acted somewhat like a mirror. I do like reflections, but this is just not good:

neat one Casil. I like the play of light. When I was in Halifax last week I saw this building close to the hotel. I snuck back and took some pictures. Not really 'what's in my scrap bin' but the whole building is being scrapped. Which is too bad because I believe it's well over 100 years old. I would have loved to have gone inside but there was this chain link fence all around it. Dang safety regs!

Cool, Bambi.

The developer has said that they will restore/rebuild the facade to have the same street-level look as it did before it was tore down. The building was literally falling down with water leakage everywhere.

Pulled a few things out of my junk drawer and tried taking a few shots with my new DIY ring light. Here are the results.

9967

9968

9969

I found the DIY info on building the ring light on this page: Modding Project: Ring Light MetkuMods - Because you love your hardware! (http://metku.net/index.html?path=mods/ring-light/index_eng) and thought I'd give it a try. Here's the result of today's efforts:

9970

9971

What I've realized though is my nifty fifty is the wrong lens to use this on as the minimum focal length is 1.5ft and while the LEDs are pretty bright they don't throw enough light for 1.5ft. A macro or something that could be at .5ft or something would be best for this project. It was a fun build though.

I have a lot of these colored floppy disks in my junk shelves. Don't use them at all anymore but I'm afraid to throw them out just in case... Mike

OK so I was feeling very guilty for suggesting the topic and then not contributing. So on Friday I went to the bin on my machine and pulled out what looked interesting I hope they come across well.
