I have my canon T1i set to save my images in both raw and large just for ease of uploading to the net and such and they i can edit and play with the raw versions if i want. I have noticed that my Raw images are clean and clear and teh large version is sorta blurry you can see it when they are side by side. I don't remember this when i was just saving in large format? is it just me or is this normal?

Well, there are a number of factors here.

1) How are you viewing the two side by side?
2) Did you change any camera settings which may have reduced the quality of the JPEG?
3) How are you creating the "large"?

The camera just converts to JPEG on the fly based on settings regarding sharpness and contrast and such in the camera. If those have been tweaked then you may experience poorer results. If you take a high quality JPEG and then convert it to a "large JPEG" using an image program then further compression may be happening and it may reduced the quality even more.

Does this help?

Helps a bit. Im still pretty new to al of this. Im slowly migrating from the auto settings to using more advanced features on this camera. I think my little girl is getting tired of me taking pic's of her..hehe... but she will get used to it

Ill have to check my camera settings. Im just using the camera settings to give me both the raw+large picture. When im viewing them in digital photo profesional its showing me both the raw+large in thumnails. It seems to be worse viewing the thumbnails if i open the pictures up and look at them side by side its hardly noticeable. Havent played with the large settings on the camera yet. But i guess for all intence pourposes if i want a better picture ill just edit the raw. the large are just getting uploaded to FB anyway

Here's my understanding of some technical details. (This might help or confuse things even more)

When you take a raw picture it also has an embedded jpeg in it. When you take RAW+L. , you are getting a Raw file with the embedded jpeg plus an additional jpeg file. There are settings on you camara that do things such as boost saturation, etc. On a Canon I think it is under picture style. These changes only effect the jpeg image and not the raw data. Therefore the raw and jpeg could actually be different. What you see on the LCD on the back of the camera is the jpeg image with the changes made. When you import the raw file into for example Lightroom, you will first see a flash of a quick thumbnail. This is the embedded jpeg. Lightroom will then take the raw data and render a new thumbnail using its own algorithm. However if you import the jpeg into Lightroom it will display the camera's version with the changes and camera's algorithms. If you then compared in Lightroom the rendered raw file to the imported jpeg it could look quite different.

My head is spinning just writing this ......
