Thoughts?
They're both under 250KB, but still blurry

Love the textures in these. It does appear that the Flicker version has more detail.

The system does seem to compress the images when uploaded here at ph.ca. I find just using the flickr url for your images works best for me. Ph.ca was actually compressing that as well after the latest upgrade but Marko and I found that issue and he was able to correct it.

Hmm this is odd, and the files are NOT the same. The flickr photo is 332x500 and 183k

The photo here is 319x480 and 180k

now let's upload the flickr photo (I was able to download it from flickr to my local machine and upload it as normal) one more time as a test.

So I am stumped - MY upload is IDENTICAL to your flickr upload in all respects.
So I must ask, How exactly did you upload this photo?

thx! Marko

Very interesting shot Gem. Cool tree scar with lots of texture shown.

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Marko, I exported those photos via Picasa like Iguanason suggested in an other thread (and the last photo I had done it for had turned out fine). I tried exporting at 800 pixels, but when I uploaded as an attachment, it was slightly blurry as well. I thought maybe it was because it was still over the 200-some KB limit, so I downsized it more, but it still didn't help.

The last time I tried uploading from flickr by downloading the image, it had STILL turned out blurry =/

When you export from Picasa what did you specify for the "Image Quality" dropdown? (Automatic, Normal, Maximum, Minimum, Custom?)

It was set to Automatic (default).

It was set to Automatic (default).

Hmmm... Automatic means it should export with the original detail (ie. no compression). I'd try it again and see maybe if something strange happened when you tried it the first time... or did you try that already?

Not sure about importing and exporting from other programs and the results it has on your images....if the export makes them blurry or compresses them, you might have sharpness issues.

But one thing is SURE. If the image is less than 250K (actually I believe I even upped this to 275k or so) and NOT larger than 1025 pixels, there will be no compression or loss of sharpness when uploaded directly to photography.ca - this is how I have uploaded 100% of my photos.

So if the image is sharp on your computer and meets the above criteria, it will be sharp and uncompressed when it's uploaded.

To see the properties of any image on a windows machine, just right click it and click properties. There you'll see the filesize in KB and the image's dimensions in pixels. I believe you click get info on a mac.

Hope that helps - Marko

Well, whatever the issue was, it seems to have fixed itself =/ I uploaded some photos from flickr the other day, and it worked just fine! :) So, I don't know what the deal was before...Thanks for the help, though!
