In brown/stick season, there isn't much else worth shooting. These shots could almost go into the 'show your town' thread, but technically they're over the line into the next town, so they're here.

The Taylor Sawmill is a restored and functional mill from about 1800. Yup, it still works and is one of the only up and down sawmills left in the world. Unfortunately for photographers, it's right on a busy road so tough to photograph without getting run over or including lots of ugly guardrail and two-lane blacktop. I went out yesterday with the hopes of a colorful sunset, but didn't get one. So here's what I went with -

That's the millpond dam. The wheel is just below the cement forms in front of the building. Note the lovely guardrail to the left of it. The dam itself is about 12 feet wide and slopes steeply down to the pond.

Here's the wheel -

I'll have to pay attention next year for a demonstration day. It would be great to see it turn and lumber produced. I bet that old saw flies.

Thanks. I moved the tripod around a lot and the other guy photographing at the same time looked at me like I was nuts; his tripod never left its little sleeve.

Nice shot with what you had to work with. Road and guardrail and wires and......I'm sure the other guy has some shots that are right up to his usual quality as well.

Thanks. I was sort of amazed. Then again, his girlfriend was carrying it so he probably didn't feel stupid for lugging it and not using it. Or he was intimidated by my ancient (and giant) Bogen. ;)

Very cool old building. Nice shutter speed on the water flow too.

Thanks guys. I've been getting a positive reaction to #2 which surprises me a bit...I think it's kind of meh compared to #1, but I'm always contrary.

It is interesting as #2 is my fav as well. I think I'm drawn to the colour and water flow. Lots to look at.

Both are nice, but like others said, I like the second better! The water flow looks great.

Definitely #2 here for me also. Shows the water movement well and some historical definition.
#1 , I just can't get past that guardrail, and hydro wires jumping out at me.

I'm for two as well. I find it defines it as mill and the flowing water is great.

Thanks much. I think early morning is the only time to get the mill from the side and include the whole building and sky...otherwise it's just too bright.
