Thanks all.

He was cute ... only about 10 inches long. I'll have to watch for him when I mow the lawn this weekend ... I'd like him to STAY 10 inches long a bit longer yet.

I know you wouldn't do that. Once my husband accidentally hit a huge toad under a bush and we both felt awful for days.

They have kill a toad days over here! Cane Toads are an introduced pest that kills native frogs in huge numbers.

this was a native. just a harmless bufo bufo. sort of medium brown. I still feel bad about it and it's been years. then again, I take worms out of puddles when it rains a lot so I'm kind of a softie.

Thanks Gem. They don't make much of a pet though ... they just kinda lay around eating insects :)

We have some pretty big worms over here too. Our giant forest worms are something else!!!

http://www.cryptomundo.com/wp-content/uploads/giant-gippsland-earthworm.jpg

Perhaps the largest overall known species is the giant Gippsland earthworm (Megascolides australis) ~ seen above, which is found only in the Bass River valley of South Gippsland in Victoria, Australia. These huge worms regularly reach sizes of 3 meters (10 feet), and the longest specimen on record was measured at 4 meters (14 feet) long. These rare earthworms are so large that it is possible to hear the gurgling sound of their movement through the earth when they are disturbed.
