my mother in law gave me this idea, and i thought i'd pass it by you guys, to see what you think...
she's seen it before, in stores, where you have a grouping of photos - say or 4 shots or more, of different shapes & objects that together make up a word or phrase. her friend always signs cards etc with the mantra 'live, love, laugh', so she's sent us out looking for photos to make up these words to frame together for a gift. we've found things so far like the base of a picnic table being an 'A', a buildings side & its windows making up an 'E'. so far the 'G' was the hardest, but we found a few trees at a park that people carved names into, and got a good 'G' off there...
i was thinking it might be a cool & fun 'assignment' in the future....

i've been doing this on another forum. we have been doing two letters at a time. i'm almost done.

if you click the link to my blog below you can see my name spelled out. i also have a bunch on my flickr page. http://flickr.com/photos/morganhenderson/2896996963/

im planning to put my last name on our wall. and make some for newborns with their first name.

Nope, count me in. Sounds like fun even if it's just a few or many people playing :) Plus it just forces us to get out there.
Thx for the suggestion :highfive:

anyone else?
Thx - Marko

maybe, like morgans class, we could all try to find our own 1st names?
or a common word - like 'love' or 'photo'?

I did it with a group on a wedding forum. there are a few of us that started learning photography so we started a photography club.

we do 2 letters a week. right now we are at O & P.

I found a nice N today while photographing my husband playing frisbee golf. i'm always on the lookout for letters everywhere i go.

i agree - lets make it "love"...
will there be a specified time for this? make it a monthly assignment?
or will we just post our words on this thread once we get them together?

Marko
10-05-2008, 11:55 PM
Given that there's already 2 challenges a month maybe we could try 1 a month to start?

I'm good choosing love as well :)

Marko -should the love letters :Dthread be moved out of suggestions to some where more fitting?

Marko
10-06-2008, 09:58 AM
Sure once we all agree I'll place it in assignment forum perhaps?

Marko
10-06-2008, 04:52 PM
Okay let's just make it love.

I think I'll create a sub-forum from the assignment forum.

I couldn't wait! :) what a FUN project!!! No comments about dust, or blur. I did this tonight when I got home from work...I did it quick, it is very dark and gloomy out, used only ambient light and set the camera to compensate.
I "love"d making my love letters!
What is the next word??????:D

Yup that's really cool TT - well done. :highfive:

Morgan I like your version as well. Very clean and sharp.

Ok let's try this as a regular monthly assignment. I have already created a sub-forum for this assignment and you can see it on the main forum page in the assignment forum.

I'm moving this thread there now and editing the title to reflect this month's word which is love.

are we okay with once a month or are people really eager to do 2/month?

Of course people can always shoot the word multiple times in a different fashions as well.

Thanks so much for this awesome suggestion!

YEAHHHH we have a home! Actually, folks, Marko built us a mansion with our own sub thread!!! Thanks Marko!

This is such a fun and entertaining project that I think we either need it to be really challenging each month , refer to my earlier post of a ginormous kicka55 word or have multiple words. IMHO the more challenging it is, the more fun, the more excersize to the craft. Which would lead to a natural improvement, which is what assignments are all about.

And yes, Thanks to Kiley and Morgan both, ( I saw it first with Morgan.) :)

Morgan - yes, that is a nice V !

Thats funny you say that Susan! I was just finishing up taking the shots for that 2nd version when my "little boy" Zac, who's 10 came home from school. I told him what I was doing, and he really liked the idea. Hes been getting into taking pics himself, since I handed my old canon p&s digital camera down to him a couple years ago. We started picking out letters in our backyard together, and put together his name... (just to clarify, these pics were taken by me)
:)

and btw, yes marko, im totally being a busy beaver with these... i cant deny it, obviously...:D

Marko - what a great lead in! And a super cool way to placate the honey!

Job well done!

edit : Marko - double goodness with your "v" since you get a heart shape out of it as well! :)

Here is my love from down town... Thank goodness I had on Linen pants and tennies.( Although my camera was getting some stares..>snag nice camera from woman not paying any attention because she is staring up to the heavens + pawn shop = next fix!) ...and not a short skirt and high heels! My original intention was to shoot it manual. But I was getting a bit creep-ed out by some of the more questionable characters out and about. I shot these on programe just so I could snag the shot and run. This was around 4:30pm tonight.

Great idea Marko! I had a really good excuse for the lousy photography - but not for the rushed pp! ;) Ohwait, I do have an excuse: that part of my brain was asleep and traumatized from the downtown experience! LOL Course, how do I explain all of the other times I have a lazy brain? Hmmm.

i like yours too paula! nice in b&w. adds to the simplistic-ness. funny how it gets you to look so closely at everyday objects & surroundings... i think its a great excersize.

Paula - "love" it! I like how you alternated the softer wood texture with the harder metal texture - a hidden message there about what love is, to me anyway...and of course, your verse is fabulous!
