Marine Atlantic ferries "just" started to sail again after a few days of being unable to sail due to bad weather conditions out in the Gulf. Throngs of stranded passengers are waiting to cross to Newfoundland for Christmas. As this is Christmas Eve and the forecast is calling for 90 km/h winds, I'm afraid some won't make it for Christmas dinner. This is from the bottom of my driveway looking out of the harbour towards Newfoundland - some 100 miles in the distance This water is "protected" from the winds by the sides of mountains and landfall. I've been in the Gulf in the tail end of a hurricane, and it's a place you DO NOT want to be. They tell me there are 9 meter waves out there . . a 30 foot wave is something you should avoid. :yuck:
