Icicle formations at the Flume Gorge in Lincoln, NH.

Was kind of an adventure to get this since the river is narrow and rocky here and the snowcover obscures where the ice ends and also the crevasses between boulders. Snowshoeing carefully I stepped over some boulders to another larger one that would let me get up high. Well, sort of. My tripod almost sank completely in the snow.

Anyway, I used live view to focus my OM 65-200 zoom and curves to bring out the dynamic range of the ice itself. I kind of like the way it came together.

That's really cool. It looks like a bumch of narrow teeth ready to bite you.

A very unique photo. Hard to tell the scale but it does catch your attention.

thanks guys.
I wish there was something to indicate scale, but there was no way I was going down onto the river itself. Plus it would have ruined that nice snow.

What a really cool ice formation. I suspect you get a sense of scale from the twigs in front of it. That "bush" on the right must be at least 7 or 8 inches high which put these "teeth" about about 3 to 4 feet long. Sound right?

That's close. The icicles are about 3 feet tall in a protected overhang in the larger gorge. The snow in the fg is on top of ice that is on top of the river that still flows beneath it.
