After a few trips to try and find them we finally captured a Short-Eared Owl. It is not the best, but could not get a better angle. These owls are only approx. 15" from tip of tail to top of head and weigh less than a pound. He was approx. 80 yards out from us.

Thanks all, and we are hoping to get down to try for some more before they head back to the Arctic. There was a gentleman telling us that one guy comes out and baits them with mice, and it is quite a sight to see them come down and snatch them up. Would love to get some shots of that.

Cool pictures. I like how you have managed to tone down the white background. It this simply a matter of lowering your exposure. Pictures I take with a white background like that tend to bright and washed out.

Thanks Aub, and thank you Asnow. As for the background it was actually a very dark grey day sky behind him, so wasn't too hard to expose for this. I was actually shooting at 800 ISO just to capture a little more light.
