My cheese salad, lit by the sun. I really need to find some white crockery.

I actually really like the blue bowl and the first one is my favourite from these two. The depth of field on this one though seems a little shallow for my taste.

Thanks Iggy,

I think I've got carried away a bit with opening the 50 up to f1.8!!!!

I see what you mean about the shallow dof...

Hehehehe... yeah, I've done that myself quite a bit. Love the f1.8 but trying to remember you can't just leave it there is hard :wall-an::wall-an:

I have to agree with the others that it may be just a little too shallow DOF.

That's way to healthy looking for my tastes  I need a constant diet of slug food! The DOF is an issue but it got me to thinking what f stop I would have chosen using my Nikon version of this lens and I'm so tired I couldn't get a number so I thought f8&bethere which led me to wonder why I haven't seen any hint of him for a long time. The tired mind also associated immediately "cheese salad" with an episode of Fawlty Towers and John Cleese but when "crockery" appeared in the same sentence (though I'd never really looked), I knew you were from the UK  Keeping aside the mentioned weakness, The second shot works well for me:)

PS...Maybe you are using the Nikon version of this lens, somehow I thought you and Iggy were Canon guys for some reason

I like this play Richard! I agree though on the DOF and lack of sharpness.
The only other thing i wanted to mention are the edges in shot 1. Toward the middle of the top edge and toward the middle of the left edge, the edge is weak. Burning in those edges will make the image stronger.
