Dear Marko,

Have you thought about doing a podcast on doing photography in overcast conditions? If there's one already I've not found it. I'm not sure what it's like in Canada but I'd bet there are times when you get sustained periods of cloud cover. I thought it would be nice to learn how to make the most of these conditions by utilising the soft and diffused light so that going out on a cloudy day needn't necessarily be a bad day.

Hi casil403,

Thanks for the link to Darwin Wiggett's book. It looks great. I'll digest some of his advice tonight as I may need it tomorrow. It's either going to be cloudy with some sun or completely overcast so it helps to be prepared.

Hi NS!

Let me think about a podcast dedicated to this, I could surely cover it but it would take only 3-5 minutes and the podcasts are normally 15-20 min...I'm sure I can expand it.

Thanks for the suggestion and another podcast should be released TODAY. I'll post here when it goes live.

I touched on this in my blog recently, too. Overcast conditions bring the telephoto out of my bag. isolate your subject as much as you can. exclude the sky entirely if it's flat and lifeless. find subjects that work without the need for shadows. think minimalist. color blocking sometimes works.

Casil, being from Victoria I would have thought you could write a much better book. I've only seen the sun for a couple of days since September. Pretty soon I'll be able to take photos of mushrooms in the mirror.

Lol...I lived in Victoria (born and raised) in my pre-photog hobby era so I dunnow if I could have written a better book! I am going back for a few days on the 17th Mar to see the family so I am looking forward to the green, temps above -25 and taking shots of old growth forest (my folks live on the edge of RRU)!
