Hi My name is Kat and I am just starting out in photography.

I am still learning a lot and hope to learn a lot more in the next little while.

My goal is to improve my skills and eventually HOPEFULLY get into some photography as a side business possibly even as a full business.

I have not done much work other than a few family events as well as being a second shooter with another photographer a few times but am hoping to make some friends in the industry and build up my portfolio.

Here are a few pictures that i took over the last little while.

Please feel free to Critique them as without constructive criticism i don't believe i can get better :)

Hoping to become part of this community and learn a lot from the much more experienced people on the board.

Welcome Kissa,

Just as a first note - the photos you want critiqued should be posted in the critique forum and you'll get the best responses by posting only 1-2 photos per thread.

Ok here goes:
Shot 1 is distracting because of the angle. The angle isn't contributing to the image which looks to me to be a portrait of a bride. The exposure seems okay and I do like some of the ambient light in the bkgd.

2 - Again not the most conventional angle for someone starting out. The model looks nice but the background and parkay floor, and being so close to the wall is distracting.

I'd HIGHLY recommend conventional poses to start out with.

3 - This is the strongest shot of the 3 imo. I like the colour, sassy posing and the vignetted arch on the bkgd. You were too far though, and needed to be closer as it is difficult to see any of the faces.

Hope that helps - and pleased do post more images. We are here to share and learn! Thx - marko

Love that bridal shot! I agree with Marko, the wall takes up too much of the frame and the vignette is too strong, but I love the colours and composition - very nice!

And Welcome, Kat!

Welcome aboard :)

seems like too much of an angle on the first one, but nice pic.

Not sure what I don't like about the second one, the shadow under face doesn't help I don't think, and maybe the shine on the face, and also the way the cheeks are emphasized with the shadows due to the lighting from above.

Love that last wedding pic, very cool indeed.

Hi and Welcome! You will find a wealth of information on this forum, very welcoming and helpful!

#1 -- Cant see, sorry :(

#2-- Doesn't really work for me, try bringing your model farther away from the background, also, the one thing that really jumped out at me was her arm cropped at the wrist, it doesn't look natural, when cropping, try to avoid directly on the joint.

#3--very nice, I think the white balance may be off a litte, some dresses appear bluish (could be my work monitor); a little too much headroom, try and get closer... as for the vignetting that others mentioned, I am a fan of vignetting, but thats just me LOL! I think its all related to personal style.

And again, Welcome! Nice to meet you :)
