Used one speedlight (Sigma 530 Super DG) fitted with a Micro Apollo softbox fired into a 42" Photoflex umbrella and a 32" Photoflex white/silve reflector disc (white side up). Cactus V4 wireless trigger was used to fire the flash.

These are very hard to do well imo. Not sure what the intent was here or if you want us to comment further. I do like the lighting pattern on the face.

very nice lighting indeed. Is this a self portrait? My only nit is the top of his head is cut off a bit (if you don't mind me saying.)

Thanks Taffy.

Marko - intent was to try a couple of different lighting set-ups and to get the settings dialed in to produce a good/pleasing result. With that said I was wanting to have a touch of shadow on the rh side of my face, catch lights and an overall soft light (my oily skin can really shine).

Bambi - yes it is a self portrait. Unfortunately all our children are grown and live away from home for either school or work. Heather works mainly nights and I work mainly days so the only co-operative model I can find routinely - is me. As to cutting off the top of my head (and I don't mind you saying, I very much appreciate constructive critique). I had reflections from an overhead light (the joys of a "shiny" dome) that I needed on in order to get the shot.Tried to, but could not get rid of the reflection or tone it down in Lr or Photoshop - so it must be by intent.

I'm liking the look of this a lot Ed. You look pretty serious.

Thanks Rinkdaddy and the look is just my normal "occupied mind look"
