This photo was accepted at a local art gallery as part of an exhibit:

Now I have to figure it out the printing and framing

Iggy suggested printing on canvas which seems intriguing. I figured I would ask for all sorts of advice :):thankyou:

I really like the look of Hahnemule Fine Art Baryta with gallery framing. There are many custom printers that will print on specialty papers for you if you are not doing your own printing. Alternatively, you can have it done on Silver gelatin the traditional process which can also be done with digital prints - http://www.digitalsilverimaging.com/printing. Not sure if this company will export to Canada but there are others using this technology as well.

I think you should use someone local for printing and not using mail order for a print you plan on using in a show and see if you can get a recommendation for a local print shop from people who used their services before or even one recommended by local arts/photography community. If your doing a show and before you pay for it you can make sure you are happy with the final photo, then you can make sure there are no errors and the B&W is done properly and also you can have a look at various paper in person and see samples of what the end product will be. It is also not a bad idea to have the print shop recommend something as most decent print shops will have samples of various types of photos on various types of paper. I think and just a suggestion you may want to use off white matting, black plain metal frame and I would use a matte paper. You want to focus to be on the photo so anything other than a black frame or a white/off white matting will distract your eyes from the photo and you want it to draw your eye to the photo and not to the frame or matting. How large do you plan on making the print?

thanks for the advice guys- I appreciate it. there is a local place I use that is quite good. I thought I might go consult with the photographer/owner. I like the idea of the off-white matting and metal frame. I was thinking that it should be simple. Haven't decided what size. this is all new to me. Any recommendations?

I know these guys are a long way away (Florida), however Scott Bourne from another podcast (photofocus) swears by this lab for canvases. Apparently that is all they do, so they are very good at it.

If you can get into Halifax, I'd suggest National Art for your framing needs and Atlantic Photo Supply for the print. You photo deserves to be exhibited . . it's a beauty.
