I went looking for wolves in the wild but came up empty. I decided to visit a nearby Wolf Wildlife Centre close to Golden, BC. It was a little challenging to shoot these wolves as they were on the other side of a chain link fence that was 7 feet away. I used my 600mm f4 lens on the full frame body. That seemed to help get rid of the pattern from the fence. The black wolf was the hardest as the pattern seemed to show the most. They do a walk with the wolves that you can pay to go on. It costs $300 to do that. I decided my $12 and shooting through the fence was good enough.

In all of them, the near fence mostly disappeared but where the back fence was seen, it produced an interesting pattern. Almost makes it look like a fake backdrop. Like in this next photo.

I would have liked to shoot these in the wild but as it turned out, it was very cool to see them this close and in a safe manner.

Very well captured on all Dan, especially with the circumstances.

Nice pictures Dan.
I also wanted to shot some wolves. But the $ 300.00 stoped that.
I was in Missoula Mt last weekend visiting a friends. Drove to the Grizzly and Wolf Discouvery centre in West Yelllowstone.
Other than rain , it was really nice. No fences to shoot through.
Check out my Wet Wolf Thread.

Thanks for the nice comments! I would have preferred to put the lens right up against the fence but I wasn't allowed to, plus the minimum focus on that lens is 16 feet. That black wolf is only 11 months old. He/she was a cutie.

Nice wolf in your picture Fred. I'm heading to Yellowstone for the first time in late September. It's good to know I can see some wolves, wild or otherwise.

I did a little video travel log of the trip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm6dcD4Qbzc If you skip to just after 30 minutes into the video, you can see the wolves.
