Through a serendipitous set of circumstances, I was invited to attend a showing in Calgary of Blake Sculpture at the Lougheed House and allowed to photograph the beautiful sculptures which included both marble and bronze pieces.
This sculpture which was displayed on a mantle and reflected in a mirror was one of the disfigurative pieces shown.

Most of the indoor photos were taken at ISO 800 with the lens wide open and at about 1/30 of a second, handheld. No VR on the lens either!

Some of the sculptures were displayed on the lawn.

Many of the figures were fragments or disfigurative pieces, which Blake explains are representative of our increasingly fragmented society. They are in turn dedicated to the survivors of landmines and military conflict.

This piece is really quite different than the other work displayed. A very interesting bronze with deep luxurious folds in the robes.

Kind of a creepy exhibition. I see rude bits.

It looks like quite an exhibition. "Disfigurative" is maybe putting what the sculptor intended mildly. Your photos are excellent. I looked at your Flickr set and there are some great ones there as well. I particularly liked the nude, white woman from the angle that shows her from head to toe.
The last photo in this set is brilliant, and I love your processing here compared to the other version in your photostream. Fits nicely with the background. Makes quite a statement.
Thanks for sharing the experience.
interesting pieces well captured, nicely done JAS!

Thanks everyone! The pieces, especially the marble are just beautiful. even the disfigurative pieces are strangely compelling.
