I just picked up the AFS VR Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6g IF-ED lense and wanted to know what the people that owned it thought about it? How sharp it was at 300mm and so on...

When I was looking to buy a D300s last year, Best Buy offered a D300 body with the 70-300 VR lens for an additional $150. I jump in it.

I put the 70-300 on my D90 (because I had already purchased the Tamron 10-24 for the 300s) and it hasn't been off since. Well, for a little while yesterday to get the shot I'll be posting shortly, but when I put it back on it probably won't come off for another year. I think it's a wonderful lens.

Hi There......

I am a freelance and new to the field but have some knowledge about this.... What barefoot is advised is the best one to opt. The 300 one is the pretty sharp.....

I just bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and love it. I had the Tamron 70-300 lens without VR and regretted buying it. I had a terrible time getting sharp shots.

If you're interested, here (http://vidi-images.weebly.com/2/post/2011/08/presquile-assorted-flora-and-fauna.html)is my first set of photos taken with the lens (using a D90).

Some lovely shots there Greg! I also have this lens and use it often especially when travelling, it's a very good all purpose lens imo.

Thanks for your input Barefoot, Kyle, Greg, and Marko, I have found it to also be very sharp at anywhere from 70mm to 200mm at f8, and from 200mm to 300mm at f16 if you have enough light. For the price of this lens you cant go wrong.
