I really enjoy seeing flower shots in B+W. I think it allows you to really see the shapes and lines that we miss when distracted by vibrant colour. Feel free to post some in the replies. I'd love to see them.

you're right that it's not often done at least out of the studio - check out the B&W forum for some of Ed's work with lilies and other flowers. this is a good example of why they work and is also unusual that it's outside. Here's one of my few B&W flower shots from last year's lily of the valley project -

Beautiful, Wicked Dark. Very frail and delicate. Nice contrast with the boldness of B+W!

Thank you, Marko. I'm still learning how to deal with sharpening in post-processing. On-going experimentation! LOL

Bambi, I don't often think of flowers as mottled. This shows how effect B+W can be. Really made me see something new. Good decision to go B+W!!!

Love that daisy shot. They're such a nice flower to do in B+W, so minimalistic. Here's one I did:

Nice shot, Tim. I like the way you've isolated those two. Well done!

Also a nice shot, Cindi. I like your sense of "joining the party" but please be careful you don't "hijack" someone else's thread.

Iggy, I don't think you have read far enough back here. This is Cindi's thread. :)

Ok, I will join the fray with these back lit gerberra daisies. :) The original clematis is really very nice. I love those flowers!

D'oh! Sorry. Tim, it's all your fault. You post was at the top of the page! As long as everyone is playing nicely I'll take my foot out of my mouth and step out of the sandbox ;)

Nice take on the gerbera, JAS; I never noticed their hairy stems before. Beautiful use of backlighting, and nice example on how B+W can make us see something new in something common.

Iquanasan, I'm Canadian, we're very polite, I would never hijack on purpose. I figured you must have thought someone else started this thread; I'm just happy to see this is a well-moderated forum. I hate when forums get messy. :-)
BTW, as an ex-kindergarten teacher I can never resist a Dr. Suess quote. LOL

Really lovely b/w-shots here. Without much colours the eye focus seems to get a better way to "view" a picture. Here is my version:
