I always get excited when I see seals feeding, they are so exuberant! this one was a bit out of my lens capabilities, so I've done my best with them, just wish the seal had been a bit closer.

couldn't figure out what this giant red blob was, but the gulls where getting excited

Turned out to be a seal with a giant pacific octopus

That's a pretty special moment you've captured!!!

I gotta say I agree with Richard here...great moment you captured! I like how the gulls are sitting waiting for any opportunity here to catch the scraps!
A couple of years ago I stayed at Point-no-Point out in Sooke and caught a few shots of an otter eating a crab on a rock very close to shoreline...he was pretty fun to watch. :)

I would say you did VERY well with these Jude. Very sharp and entertaining set. Love it.
(btw, which lens are you using)?

HBG, im using a cheap canon 55-250 mm lens, I wanna get the sigma 50-500mm but keep dipping into the money im trying to save for it.

p.s. After seeing your pictures, maybe in my case I can'no longer blame the lens, maybe I'll have to blame the photographer's lack of focusing ability.

Super action images, Jude, very impressive. And if you are looking to get the Bigma, a word of caution: though it has better glass than the older version, and the 150-500, I found that when I had the 120-300, I shot most of the time with the maximum extension, 300mm. And I was not very impressed with the sharpness of the images (so much so I traded the lens for the D300s plus some cash). Now I am waiting to get a 300mm prime on ebay. For Nikon the 300 F4 is not a bad lens at all; and combine that prime with a 1.4 TC and you have a nice 420mm lens.

I considered the Bigma as well, but this (http://darwinwiggett.wordpress.com/2011/06/21/sigma-50-500mm-f4-5-6-3-apo-dg-os-hsm-lens-review-a-field-test/) made me reverse. I do own a 17-70, and a 70-200, both of them nice lenses; why would I want to get a lens that has the sweet spot in the 200-300mm range? I rather get a good prime that will be sharp at the focal length I want. Just my:twocents: :shrug:
