Not posted in a while. Here's a pic I finished editing recently. I'd love to know your thoughts.

This is a pensive pose, but imo, it may not be too flattering to the model because her nose looks quite large here. That's not to say that it 'is' large, it just looks that way based on the facial pose. Part of the reason for this is the fact that the nose extends beyond the face's 'edge' because she's turning her head too much.
I do hope you take more shots of this person, she has a very striking face.
Aside from that, I'm personally not crazy about the orange monochrome colour here, for me it draws attention to itself. My feeling is that good old sepia may have been a better choice.

Short lens?? I too would pass on or at least lower the saturation level of the added colour. It doesn't make it look old, just orange.

I really like what you were going for with this shot. It looks like you were trying to get the warm orange glow of the setting sun and it's close enough that I kinda like it.

+1! Pretty lady, but not a very flattering angle. I was wondering how to delicately mention the nose, but Marko's done it already :)

I'm not a fan of the orange either, it's too peach-coloured to remind me of warm sunlight. I almost said 'peachy' but that would have been confusing :D

Thanks guys for all your comments. As always they're well received and appreciated. This was very much an experimental shot and I knew it would be a good one to put on the site. My forte is landscapes but I didn't want my photography to be so narrowly focussed and it's good to branch out into unfamiliar territory in the hope of learning something new. I've not done much in the way of portraits but it's something I'm keen to develop. I'll take your points in order:

@ Marko - thanks for the point on the nose (that sounds a bit comical but you know what I mean). Would you say it helps to determine a model's best profile side and if so what do you look for. I wanted to get Sophia looking at the sun as this was the time of sunset but maybe the angle didn't work. Maybe next time I'll get her to look over my shoulder whilst looking into the light. PS, she hasn't got a big nose so maybe it was just the angle. She actually laughed at this and wasn't offended. She knows you're just trying to help me. Sure I'll take some more pics. we're planning another photoshoot in the next month or so.

@ Andrew - I was using a standard 18-55mm zoom lens.

Re: colour @ all - The final colour was the intention here I wasn't trying to make it look old. I've been experimenting with b/w monochromes with some of my other work and just wanted to see how a colour monochrome worked. I quite liked the peachy/orange colour but I'll have a go with it in sepia. You are right Iguanasan, I was trying to capture some of that sunset warmth as I thought it worked well with Sophia's skin tones and softened even more and neutralised the background.
