Does these work

I'm not sure about the composition of these images with subject matter in both the fore and back ground with a chunk of space in the middle.... as you can see in these two the o.o.f. area is has been switched. Just curious on opinion of either of these work, and which of the two do you like better.... the foreground in focus? or the background?

Nice fall colors. Personally I prefer both the background and foreground in focus. Regards.

Agree with the above; this is a case where the whole image should be in focus. Additionally, the image needs to be levelled. A polarizing filter would have helped to reduce the reflections on the water.

I like the shot where the background is out of focus and i do like this shot. Burning in the rocks (maybe 25%) and the water (maybe 15-20%) would improve the image IMO.

Experimenting, this is the best way to learn about DOF.
In this case both FG and BG would be better both in focus. Your second
photo would work if you were real close and low to the FG to make it
your main subject.
