Yeah, I was in the woods again today. I found something I'd never seen before (love that); this pink lady slipper blossom which is all dessicated and still attached to its stem.

The first was taken with my normal ZD 12-60mm lens and the second with the legacy OM 90mm f2 macro. The only way to really isolate the flower itself was with limited DOF and a tiny bit of manipulation in LR. It made becoming overrun with ants during the shoot worth it. Damn things got everywhere including on the camera, in my backpack and up my pant leg (pervs!).

That macro lens shot is awesome, you can see tiny little threads on it... spiders?....... shame about the ants.

Thanks Rich. There might have been spiders, but I didn't see any. Ants I had plenty of though.

I Like them both. # 1 for the dof used, and #2 for the impressive sharp detail. Very well done WD.

Love that second shot. Next time try not to sit on an ants nest ;)

thanks guys. yeah, ants are sneaky and nosy. thanks HBG, you have no idea how many shots of that I took just to play with DOF. Finally I decided on that one because the leaves have texture, but still aren't sharp. I only wish the flower itself wasn't the same color as the dead leaf litter. Ah well. Funny about the second one's sharpness; it's an old lens that I practiced with last year on my lily of the valley project and it always amazes me how good it is and how I had to learn how to use it well. Some of the other lenses I have of the same vintage I haven't gotten the hang of and so the results aren't nearly as good.

Thanks much guys. Only you would come up with that M. Is it the stem shape that does it? Now you mention it, I kind of follow you. Ya nut. :)
