I went exploring a new trail one day after it had rained. All the colors were intensely saturated and fresh looking. The ferns were newly leafed and so I had to spend some time with this beauty (ostrich fern) -

Shot w/my normal lens and tripod. Changed the focus point a few times and this one is definitely the best. Ferns are so darn photogenic.

very nice DOF and focus.

Just out of curiosity and not really related to this shot, have you played with focus stacking at all?

Nope. I've been out of work so long I can't afford any toys. As far as I know all the good tools cost $$.

my wish list is pretty long, you defiantly get what you pay for...

you're right about that Rich. Fortunately my list isn't so long, but still unreachable. Hopefully I get called back for a 2nd interview this week on a job I don't think I'll hate. Imagine that.

Now that's a "wicked" image. Eye candy. Love the light, the colours, the composition, the use of DoF .. just wicked!

Love the color, and I think the focus works beautifully. For whatever reason, when you gave the name of the fern, I immediately thought of a knitting pattern called ostrich plumes. Dragged out my references, and yeah, there's even a resemblance to the fern. (Don't mind me; I'm making odd connections this evening)

thanks guys. I think the fern is named after the bird's feathers, although I don't know enough about the bird to make the connection. It's probably the close-fitting body feathers though, not the male's giant tail. Funny that this shot languished so long in my hd...I have a special Lightroom collection for those that I like, but haven't done anything with. I should mine that again it seems.

I also dig the selective focus here - well done.

Thanks. It's funny that I pretty instinctively know what will work, but continue to experiment in the field to make sure. I think this is the first frame I shot of this. It has to do with my concentration I think and was part of what made me write my latest blog article about declaring your photography major. Gave me stuff to think about anyway.

Olympus colors are so beautiful. That's a really nice DOF, and a nice shot.
