Yesterday I spent a few hot, sweaty hours in the woods looking for newts. I only saw one, but the photos are crap. Then I spied some lovely indian pipe at a stage I haven't photographed yet, but I couldn't manage anything in the scene and fought and struggled my way to no useful images. Just when I was ready to give up, I found this -

Somehow the switch got flipped from suck to not-suck and I worked the scene like mad, hoping the dappled sunlight would stay where it was. Lo and behold, it did. Phew.

And even if I hadn't gotten anything, the day wouldn't have been a total waste. I found a potential sunrise location for when the irises are blooming again. Cool.

It's said that you're rewarded for perseverance. It just isn't said how you'll be rewarded. Not only nice colors on the 'shroom, but nice contrast from the leaf litter.

Thanks guys. I almost threw in the towel before I saw this, but luckily snapped out of it.
