Met up with another local here the other day and he told us of a remote location for an old abandoned mine. No real coordinates or anything, just a rough idea. Sounded like a challenge, so today, off we went.
Really difficult find, but this is what we came across.
All shots with an old Sony F717, as didn't know what we would get into.

The old head-frame for the vertical shaft.

Inside the head-frame, (not the safest place in the world, is it??)

Looking into the horizontal shaft, from the old cart rails. Quite cold air coming from within.

Close-up of busted in entrance.

Inside a little ways, looking out.

What the old miners risked their lives for. Yes it is real gold.
It was actually totally black way inside here. This is definitely a bonus we brought the old F717 as it has infrared capabilities and can auto focus in total lack of light.

This gives you an idea of how hard these are to find. The rails are down there right in the centre of pic.

Another vertical shaft we found while touring the woods later in the day. My husband held on to me by the shirt, and he hung onto a tree, while I leaned over the opening to get this shot.
Yes that is ice down there on the 2nd of Sept. (DON'T FALL IN)

Cool. Dig this immensely. Just to be able to venture out there and find this stuff alone is thrilling, but to come back with such wonderful images is even more rewarding. Just love # 4 and # 5. Such an eerie sight, and wonderfully captured with the fog (at least I think it's fog). I gotta get out more and explore!!!!!!

At $1800+ an ounce I'm surprised you didn't start digging! Cool set. #5 is my fav here.

I did not figure it would take you's long to go looking for that mine! Looks like it was worth the trip, I may have to check that out next time up!

Yes, we will definitely have to take you over there on your next visit Kev. We actually went the day after you and Tasha left, but couldn't get back to it, so went back next day in side-x-side.
We were so glad to see you and the whole family, but sad to see ya's leave. Well, we'll have lots to show you for the next trip though.

Yes, very tempting indeed, but also, very dangerous. There were cracks/fissures in the rocks everywhere down there, and one hit in wrong place and, BOOM, she may all come down on top of ya'.

Hopefully will get back in there again with the better gear and lighting before the snow starts.

that was totally cool. I'm even more jealous than ever. Someday, I'm totally crashing your pad. I love the shot of the inside looking out.

Thank you Jas, was awesome to find and explore, to say the least.

Anytime WD, you are more than welcome.

Can't wait for the winter when we can get out on the sleds and get shots of half frozen waterfalls, as we are surrounded by them. Actually, just got back from ride with neighbour, and he took us to a little oasis that he owns with a 60ft.+ cascading waterfall and large pool at bottom. Has one half mile of waterfront along the river also. This is approx. half mile back from any roadways also. Will put pics up when we get back in there again with cameras. (didn't know we were going there, just went for ride on side x side and hooked up with them)

Very cool. The saying of your title actually originated here in my hometown too. Even with all the mines here as far as I know we don't have anything quite like what you found left, except for the vertical shafts, those are still around and makes wandering around the hills a bit tricky!

Nice set. Inside the head-frame would look fab as a BW (it's 75% there already)
