Welcome to the board and I too, am a novice (sub-novice actually) photographer and my photo editing skills don't even have a classification. I just joined last week and it is a great site and very helpful (I say this before they kick me off for bugging them to death with dumb questions and bad photos :) ).

Hey Trevor! Glad you found us and welcome. We are a patient bunch so if you do indeed practice, post and learn, your photography skills should improve quickly. :)

If you don't know the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO, that is the first thing you should look into. Basic exposure is a KEY concept to fully understand. No photographer's work can flourish without this understanding.

here's a basic article that can help - Photography - Shutter speed - Aperture or F-stop - ISO | Photography podcast blog and forum - Photography.ca (http://www.photography.ca/photography-tips/photography-trinity/)

Welcome again! Marko

Learn the basics, learn the camera, get out there and shoot. Pay attention to what you're doing and learn and adjust from your mistakes. You'll pick up a lot in a very short time. Keep your shots to look back on and I'm sure you'll see improvements.
Welcome.
