I will give it a shot, but please remember I am a sub-novice photographer, so take my critique with a grain of salt...

It is a great shot with nice placement of the subject to the left and open space in his line of vision. It looks as if you blurred the background and his tail. It looks like he has a light halo around him. I would have left the tail in focus (if you did blur it).

The colors are great and the fur is VERY sharp!!!!

Hi Tiger,
no edit as such, I have cropped the photo though. I will have to look at the original to see about a halo. If there is one, what would cause it and how would I prevent it?

Hi Tiger, I had a look at the original size and the one that I have uploaded. There's halo on the uploaded one but not on the original?. I never even spotted it.

The halo I am speaking about is the dark line from his right ear to about his right elbow, where the sharp fur meets the blurry fur of his tail. This happens to me if I try to process something and don't get close enough it. It may just be me.

It is still a GREAT!!!

Thanks Tiger for taking a look. I wouldn't have spotted it if you hadn't mentioned it. If anyone is reading this thread, this is really what I want and need. I would like the flaws pointed out, but also the solution if there is one. Please, please, like I said, there is NO ego here.

So you see what I am talking about? If there was no editing on your part, it is just an optical illusion (maybe dark fur on his back).

Hi Tiger, no editing just crop. Lool, not very good at editing :-) Is it the downsizing of the image for the site? I noticed on the smaller version, that the blur or DOF seems to cut the image in half. depth wise. If you see what I mean?

It maybe the compression of the site? Is the dark halo in the original image? What size was the image when you uploaded it? It needs to be less than 275kb (and trust me, it affects the image a lot)

Thanks Tiger,
I appreciate the time your taking. Right, the size of the image on upload was, 79.9kb and dimensions are 603x400. and the dark halo isn't on the original.

The original before upload is 79.9?

I'm guessing you mean 5.25mb (gb if HUGE!!!!). If you have Gimp, resize the original in percentages, and reduce the size to about 15% of the original, and save as a different name so you don't lose the original. When I resize, I just save as "original_name" and add "small" to the end of the name.

That dark halo is perplexing, and seeing as it's not on the original I can't offer too much to it's existence. Unless it's to do with the cropping somehow or, more likely perhaps, the sharpening process.

Other than that it's a very good, sharp photo and I really can't offer much in the way of critique.

We should check to see if the halo was caused by the board software compressing the image. In order to post an image to photography.ca you should resize it to ensure it is less than 1025 pixels (on the longest side) and less than 275KB. If it's larger than either of those dimensions the software on the board will resize it and the results are generally less than stellar.

Lool, yes Tiger, mb!
I used elements 9 to downsize the image, it has a option to resize for the web. So, what I tried was, whatever the longest side of the image is, I typed in approx 600 and short side of image 400. I did this to insure it would fit here and not exceed the upload limit. I think whatever the issue is, I think its something I am doing.
