Ryerson University in Toronto was gifted 300,000 photographs that chronicle historic events of the 20th Century in 2005. They are redoing School of Arts building in downtown Toronto which will house this collection and other photographs and arts. I think this is a very important event for the photography community in Toronto and for the rest of Canada having such a massive presence of photographic history in one of our largest cities. You can read the full story here, Ryerson Boosts its Downtown Presence with Image Arts Building | Urban Toronto (http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2011/05/ryerson-boosts-its-downtown-presence-image-arts-building). With this and the annual month long photo festival Contact, Toronto is becoming an international centre for the preservation and showcase for new and up and coming photographers. Great time to be living in Toronto and being a photographer.
