As you're probably aware my ex GF, who later became my room mate for the next few years, called it quits recently, good for both of us. I was severed at that point from the medical coverage provided by her work environment. Fair enough. Today I got a bill from "Revenue services" for medical coverage payable by three month term, six or the full year for Seven hundred dollars and change. I was under the assumption that medical coverage in this country was paid for by our taxation system and you only had to pay if you wanted more than the basic coverage? I don't recall signing anything saying I was willing to pay almost eight hundred a year to some "Revenue Services"? I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to reach these extortionists to no avail..."Please choose from the following seven options". Fair enough...Two..."please choose between the following the following eight options", on and on and on until...Briiiing..."welcome to "revenue Services, your call may be monitored or recorded because we can and will..."please hold for the next available AGENT!" After draining my cell battery and loosing an hour of my life, I am no further ahead in my understanding of who authorized (a) my partnership with these ratbags and (b) how it is without my consent they can extort money from me? Interestingly enough, the bill has a "96" at the bottom of it which seems to mean it's a remittance!

Seems like this might just be bureaucratic incompetence OR possibly a complete scam.
If you never signed anything and they never covered you for anything, you don't owe them anything.

from what i read on the internet about bc's Medical Services Plan it is mandatory for all bc residents
but if you are unable to pay due to finances they due have a way of you applying for lower rates
at least thats what i got out of what i could find
