View Full Version : Playing with ND filters

my variable ND filter arrived this week, so I convinced my better half to let me go out and play in the garden for 10 minutes. The basic idea was open the lens right up to f2.8 (with a shutter speed of no more than 1/200 to allow a good flash sync).

With out the ND filter the picture would be overexposed). Here's my first play, I'm going to have another go if a better presents its-self, and I can get out somewhere better than my tiny garden.

I'm using a Hama Variable ND Filter, I've not made up my mind on colour cast yet, I was using it on it's minimum setting, I'd say that it robs a little bit of sharpness, but the results usable.

Awesome. With my triggers coming I'm starting to get excited to see some of your stuff. My favourite here is number 1 as well. Excellent work.

Excellent results. I've been looking at variable NDs for a while, and was looking at the not-too-expensive ones. Not for flash stuff but just f1.4 shots in bright sunlight. I didn't want to spend a bazillion dollars on a Singh Ray despite loads of peoples telling me the budget ones were "unusable due to the colour cast" or words to that effect. Glad to see they were all wrong!

yeah I know what you mean, I read a whole bunch of reviews, where everyone was singing the Singh Ray's praises, it's a little out of my budget at the moment. I need to get out and test mine on a brighter day to see how it performs when pushed harder...
