Hmmm - gotta be honest as always.
- First and foremost neither the tree nor the stature are sharp.
- There is a distinct orangy cast to the shot
- The statue's face in particular could use more light.
Hope that helps,
happy holidays to you too omhubbard!

One good idea would be to take a couple Christmas colored lights and put them behind you to create light on the statue. I would work on getting that statue in really solid focus but don't loose too much on the tree. Probably be good to take a series of shots opening up as you shoot.
I sympathise with you, I tried shooting decorations on my tree. It's really hard with shiny subjects and multiple light sources. Mindforge's advice sounds good in my newbie opinion.

Nice concept but I think something in the photo should be sharp. I like the shallow depth of field and appreciate what you are trying to do.. but something should be sharp in that shot.

what if you put a flashlight beam or some other directed beam of light on to the statue so it was lit, against the darker background? This would make it stand out more, and help in focussing on it.
I have no idea if it'd work- just and idea! :-)
