Ok members - whose got ideas for a regular and level 2 assignment for this month.

Just throwing these out - feel free to support them or suggest other ideas.
The ideas with the most support in the next 24 hours become this month's theme.

Regular assignment suggestions;
- Close up faces
- white

Level 2 suggestion;
- white on white
- black on black

How about a theme based on Michaelaw's image "You're Just Fakin It" (http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f20/youre-just-fakin-16904.html)

Create an image using the same title

One idea I thought of was since this is the start of a new year, it is out with the old and in with the new. So my idea is 'renewal'.

We are gonna need a few more people's input for a democratic choice :)

If we're suggesting a few of our own (I haven't been here long; these may have been done) :

Time
Fences
Food
Work
Shadows

If we're selecting something already suggested, my vote is for "white" and "white on white"

I'm thinking I'd like to try and work the themes around photographic ideas rather than just random stuff. Just my :twocents: but I'd like to go with "Fill the Frame" in an effort to get better with composition.

How about "one" --- taking it literally or figuratively. Totally open to interpretation. (Since this is the first month of a new year.)

I like this one better than my "You Just Fakin it" theme

Ok then seems to be tie for support on regular and level 2 assignment.....so admin makes the call.

The regular assignment will be "One"
The level 2 assignment will be white on white (this is a photographic idea, no?....hope u approve Iggy)

Hi members,

Suggestion posts are merged and the regular assignment this month is "One".
This is a very wide theme with ooooodles of room for creative interpretation.

OK then - who will post first?

OK, I will go first. I used a little leeway and went with "Won", not "One"

This is my daughter's crowns, sashes, medals, and trophies from a few pageants she was in

The three photos I am submitting for this month's assignment each have their own little bit of a story. The original idea was to take the middle photo while the snow fell. A few days ago, the snow did fall, but by the time I was able to load gear and make the trip out, the National Cemetery was closed. I had time today, and not knowing when the next snow would fall, I went ahead and made the shot - even though it was not was what was in my mind's eye.

The first photo was the first thing I saw when I approached the grounds. I found it quite interesting that there was only "one" headstone facing south.

The middle photo -(concept photo) actually was the brain child of the man in the photo. When I told him what the assignment was, he suggested the National Cemetery and the poignancy of "one" man giving his life for the benefit of many. I wanted the impact of the snowfall, but it was not to be. The flag that he has draped over the headstone flew at our nation's capital in Washington, D.C. USA in honor of his mother who passed away when he was 18.

The last photo -- same story as the first photo, it was the last headstone I saw as I was leaving the grounds. It said everything it could possible say about the number "one".

That said, what I really wanted to photograph for this assignment was a woman, nude - with a single mastectomy/leaving "one". I could not find a willing participant.

I did these macros for this assignment, and noticed that they look quite different when reversed. Is it just me, or do others see the difference? These are the exact same photos, only rotated 180°.

The image with the #1 at the top, the key sticks up (true image), but the image with the #1 at the bottom, the keys seem to be lower on the flat part than the edges of the keys

This is actually a very cool optical illusion! I worked out how it's happening, but still ... very cool!

I'll draw up a diagram if necessary, but first try looking at the top photo only from directly in front ... and then look at it from about 45 degs to the side of your monitor.
What you will see is when the keys look raised, the keyboard is right side up. When they look indented, your mind still see's the keyboard right side up, when it's actually upside down ... i.e ... the keys are hanging from under the keyboard.

MA: Thanks for the explanation. It makes sense. On my iPad when I spin the pictures around, they change according to which way is up.
Susan: Thanks for the comment on the album, but it's Elvis, not the Beatles. Big difference.

You are both wrong, that is not an album, it is a CD :D

Yes, I saw the op illusion - i just can't figure out how it works. I thought you meant you understood how it works. - or - maybe you explained it to me and i still don't get it? Thanks for trying :-) either way - it is cool how it does become and OI ... :-)

DOH! I do this all the time. I transpose things in my mind -- I was listening to the Beatles when i posted. ---YUP! BIG difference. :-) I would prefer listening to the Elvis 'ones' to the Beatles 'ones' every time, but alas, i do not have much in the way of Elvis. :-(
