I was heading up Spring Garden Road in Halifax to catch my ride home...rather important during the Transit strike that I not be late so I was a bit rushed, however, this woman saw my camera and told me that she was homeless and could I take her photo. I was a bit surprised as I don't often have people stop me on the street and ask me to take their photo. I quickly snapped off a couple of shots, the first one being my favourite. I wish I had more time to stop and chat with her since she seemed so friendly but I had my ride to catch... at least I have this shot to remember her.

this is a wonderful portrait Iggy - very sharp and clear. The actual worded text in a title or post always adds to the image for me and you've done a lovely job on the image and the accompanying text.

Really well done, you should print off a small copy and keep it with you to give her should you at some other time bump into her, may not happen but I bet you would make her very happy.

Thanks, AL. I'd already thought of doing that but hadn't gotten it done yet... I'll do it this weekend.

Thanks, Richard.

Lovely shot, lovely face. Since I do quite a bit of city photography, I often run into "homeless" people, street people. I generally do not intentionally photograph them, but you would be surprised how many actually ask to be photographed. I think it gives them a bit of identity in a world where they are often ignored, nameless and overlooked.

Thanks, JAS. Yeah, you can go a block in downtown Halifax without being hit up for change. I'm polite and respond to them either way but many simply walk past and ignore them. Very rude behaviour in my mind.

Very well done Iggy, and I agree with Bucket. Seems her life may not be the grandest, but those eyes show so much life in them.
