When it's not covered with snow, there are thousands upon thousands of square miles of land like this in northern Canada.

Not high elevation- maybe 400 feet aboe sea level. Quite far north, though. Google Yellowknife.

Beautiful image - love that "shield country". Your image nicely captures the spongy texture of the thick lichen, and the bright orange evergreen needle clumps bring my eyes down to the foreground, but if it were my shot, I might've cropped a wee bit off the bottom of the picture to bring the orange down a little more. That's just me, though. Great shot!
