A little back story.....I am a bodyman by trade (collision repair tech) and for a few years, I have been kicking around the idea of showcasing the collision repair industry (from the standpoint of an average bodyman from an average American body shop) with a photo project. Recently, I was looking to create an image for my Facebook 365 project, and was this project was kickstarted with the creation of "Tools of the Trade". It is the first official image, and the ball has started rolling!

I decided to create a dedicated thread to this project because I do not stick solely to B/W or color. I create the image in a manner that the subject dictates to me.
Any and all feedback ( positive or negative) is certainly welcomed, so feel free to leave a comment, ask a question, or just add to the view count!

Nice shots! I like your project idea... would love to see some of those tools "in action".

Nice series and some good treatments on the photos. Funny though, my son in law is a body guy and his "work space" is as well organized as the one you show. Good luck on the project and don't forget to show us some once in awhile.

I do have a few ideas for some "in action" shots, but it is kinda tough to work with them and shoot them at the same time. We have slowed down a bit, and I might try to get the other guy in the shop to let me shoot him in action.....

Here's one shot from our "hope chest"....as in "you hope you can find the one you need..."

Cool addition to the motion assignment and this thread... I like the patterns in the metal and the flying sparks.

Iguanasan, you don't know how difficult it is to actually repair a customers car and take a shot like this! I work in a small shop, with only me an another body guy, and he doesn't want his photo taken.......LoL

I'm glad you are making the effort though... this is a cool look inside a body shop... nicely done.

This one was the hardest one to capture thus far! I usually leave my tripod in my truck, but wouldn't you know it, I took it out last night for another photo....and I definitely needed it here! I ended up using a parts cart with various broken parts all around my camera......

An interesting set! The 2nd one is my favourite, not so sure about the greenish tint but the wife and kid in the background really makes the picture. Some interesting textures all round too. Have you considered making a single set where they are all processed and framed in the same way? I think it might add some cohesion to the project.

It's been a while since I have added to this thread, but I made a new photo the other day. A customer brought their car in, it looked as though it took a small bump under the left side headlamp. The bumper wasn't even torn. But the panel lines were all off, wide on one side, tight on the other. This small bump shifted the frame rails over to the right by 20 millimeters or so!
So I had to chain the car down and use a hydraulic ram and pull tower to pull the rails back within specs....

Hmm - I really like this series...but in this last photo, I see sharpness issues. and I believe I can see movement blur in both the front grill and the windows at the back of the garage.
I'd be curious to know the shutterspeed you used here.

Wow...it has been almost a year since my last post on this thread, Marko, to answer your question...it was actually a multiple shot pano because I couldn't get far enough back to get the whole scene in...
