I have not been to satisfied with the sharpness/detail in portraits I have been getting with the kit 18-55 so I picked up a 17-55 recently on sale. These 2 shots are just quick snaps with little setup just to check things out and I think this is going to work out well. Is there enough sharpness/detail in these pics?? Any comments are welcome.

Definitely plenty of sharpness there in my opinion.

The results look quite nice. Another option is the 50mm prime. Relatively inexpensive - only $140 for your Canon. It's a very wonderful portrait lens.

Sharpness seems just fine to me. However, there is something weird in the colors for my eye. It is in the brown tones in the hair of the first image, and the brownish skin tones in the second image. Under the chin and along the arm. I wonder if that is post processing? Almost looks that way.

Good lens. Sharpness is okay but it can be improved with selective sharpening for eyes.Skin tones on first look yellowish but this is depends on white balance settings and can be easily to fix.On second one white balance is perfect. Maybe need a little more light.

Thanks for the comments guys.
These were both done with bounced flash and I think that shows pretty much in the first one with the dark spot on top of her head.
Some of the slight colour differences could very well be my processing skills, or lack of......
