The original image (taken with a 200mm lens) had a boring grey background so I merged the silhouette with another shot I had taken the same day with a macro lens of a deliberately out-of-focus pinkish apple blossum. I played with the hue and saturation and here is the result.

I really like what you have done with this Doug. I am just wondering if it may be more effective flipped horizontally. Just a thought!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Runmonty, after trying your suggestion - flipping the image horizontally - the original orientation works best for me, but thanks anyway.

The more I look at it, the more I agree with you. It was just a thought when I first looked at it. Hope I didnt offend. It is a really cool image.

Not at all. I truly appreciate any and all comments about my photos, even if I decide not to follow suggestions. This is why I joined this forum in the first place - to tap into the technical knowledge and creative and artistic ideas of people in this community, in order to improve my photographic skills. So, thanks again Runmonty and everyone else.:)

In case this is of interest to anyone, these are the two shots (background & silhouette) that I used to creative the image. You'll notice how muted the colours are in the original background layer and the intrusive branches that I didn't keep in the silhouette layer.

Also, here are two other background layers I've experimented with. Both are more defocused macro apple blossum shots.
