Hi members!

I'm considering 1 week in 1 of these 3 cities for a photo vacation at the end of summer.

Anyone have input/experience on which city I should choose?

Thx!
Marko

I did some research a few years ago looking at taking a similar trip and would recommend Whitehorse. We each have our own interests and suggest you look at some contributing factors I found helpful. Range of photographic opportunities(people, places), local topography, what is within day-trip range, population, etc. Google PHOTOS OF ________ and you'll get an idea of what to expect from each. Google Maps satellite view helps with planning too.

Regarding people and landscapes I think Inuvik would offer the least for photography diversity. Landscape wise I don't think Yellowknife is far behind. Whitehorse is easily the winner from that perspective for me but you may have seen enough of mountains, lakes, rivers, etc on your trip out west last year.

- If you don't already have it, use this The Photographer's Ephemeris | Plan your shoot (http://photoephemeris.com/) to pre-plan your landscape activities for the golden hours.
- Northern lights are a hit or miss thing but search out a dark open location in case the opportunity presents itself.
- Contact a local photographer and ask for some suggestions of popular places to go.
- Call the local travel bureau now and get them to send you their pamphlets and magazines asap.
- Create your own hit-list of priorities and plan around them.

I'm sure we'll hear more of your planned activities in the near future but if September is your target you don't have much time. It will be here before you know it. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the advice Andrew. Looking like a mix of Whitehorse and Inuvik at this point.....
Just looking at the map though, yellowknife looks awesome, but logistically whitehorse makes more sense for my plans and budget....also There's just no time to do it all.

I would agree with Whitehorse. I was born in Yellowknife and worked in both Inuvik and Whitehorse. Whitehorse has by far the best eye candy. Do travel north and visit the Dredges in Dawson though. They are spectacular.

Way cool Neil - Thanks and welcome to the forum!
I would have thought that given all the lakes and water around Yellowknife, that yellowknife would be the winner for eye candy....but looks like Yellowknife won't happen this trip due to time so it's moot.

Aside from the dredges in dawson city (Thanks for that!) any other must sees in whitehorse or Inuvik your opinion?
many thanks!!!!!
