Anyone have a regular assignment suggestion for this month?

- I'll throw one out. Portraits. Feel free to support that idea or suggest another - no worries.

I believe for this month's level 2 assignment we were going to take 10 consecutive images with NO PP. (Can't find the thread we discussed this in though)

I like portraits. I might actually do a few! :)

Also, yes, the 2nd level assignment was based on this conversation: http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f3/photo-assignment-simply-exercise-18451.html

Something like this:

Oooh, I like that idea of a level 2 challenge... we could pick any say 5 day period or 3 day period within the 31 days of August and take 12 shots. Then you have to post all 12 shots.

- No editing (including cropping)
- JPG only (no RAW)
- B&W's must be done in-camera
- 12 successive shots

I'm cool with that Iggy - except for one thing......the cropping.

Uncropped images will be too wide and will get compressed by forum software. (unless I'm missing something)

So I suggest cropping and save for web are the only things that should be done.

Make sense? Thx!

Resizing for the web is OK but the idea is to fill the frame and only include that which you want to include in the image. When I say, no cropping, I mean don't cut up the frame after you take the shot. In other words, all the images will be of the 4x6 format. You won't find any 8x10's or 16x9 or 1:1 ratio images. Am I making any sense?

we agree to agree :)

I like the Level 2 assignment but the time frame should not matter. If it takes someone 20 days to get all the shots, so be be it. This could almost be a level 3 assignment and have it for 2 months. This will make use take our time in shooting the 10 images and not feel rushed because "I only have four and only 3 days left".

For level 1, I offer the suggestion of "iron".

The reason I say a level 3 for the 10 images, for those of us with only one camera, I will have to do level 1 and than level 2 (3), unless I use one of my 10 images as my level 1 image.

That's why I suggested a short time frame. Challenge yourself for a day or two to shoot with those restrictions and then go back to what you normally do. They all don't have to be perfect. The idea behind the challenge is to help you concentrate more on individual images rather than the "spray and pray" method.

Interesting AT, I'm guessing the reason Iggy suggested 3 or 5 day is exactly because we don't want to tie up our cameras all month if we only have 1 camera.

But I'm okay with you taking as much time as you want. The photos should be consecutive though, that's part of it.
I think I'd like to make this 10 images though. This should be way interesting.

Regular assignment this month will be portraits.

merging suggestion posts now. Thx all!

Ok members, the suggestion posts have been merged and the regular assignment this month is portraits.

Ok then who will post first?

The level 2 assignment is posted here. (http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f34/august-2012-post-10-consecutive-jpeg-photos-no-post-processing-18609.html)

This is my grandson. I previously put this on Facebook - he has eyes that the camera likes, so we tried a high key picture.15762

Well..just realized this is the assignment of the month and it fits right in with my month. Took this today of my niece. I have the rest of my week to keep on shooting her and hopefully I'll get one of her smiling looking at me ;)

Well done Kat - way cute.
I'll likely post another one this month but here's one from the fireworks festival.
Although I like my eyes sharper, this was a 1 second exposure...excuses, excuses - lol.

Going to the folk festival and knowing about the assignment opend the doors for some candid shots of musicians and spectators. Here are some of them:

Nicely done, Marko. I love the moment you captured, regardless of eye sharpness :)

Nice set, Matt. Love the sharpness.

And the lighting wizard strikes again. Is that one or two speed lights? I can't quite tell.

Thanks Marko & Iggy,

Yer they were two main bit of light.... I was using 5 speedlites that night, 2 into 1 shoot through umbrella(you can see the umbrella in the reflections in the chrome bumper), 1 speedlite in the car and 2 from behind (although those back 2 weren't doing to much in this particular shot)

Julian: what a fantastic image. The shear innocence in the eyes, the "lost in time" expression, and the superb finishing. Makes one want to be a kid again.

kat: really nice set, love the expressions as well ... only thing that disturbs me is the pierced ear at this early age, but that is none of your doing. Love the black and white one, the hands are just as fabulous as the facial expression ...

Marko: for a one second exposure you done real good, my friend. Love the fireworks as a backdrop. Children can be such rewarding subjects.

Richard: Your stunning lighting skills are enviable. I love how you lit this portrait. The effect of the lit interior of the Mini is such a nice addition to the whole image - adds the white emphasis. I also like that you do not adhere to the square lines of a photograph, tilting the camera adds nice drama.

Here are a couple I tried. They must have been underexposed because they are grainy. Just having fun with the girls in their new rooms.

Attempt 1 for me. This started off as a candid, but this was shot 3 or 4 and my daughter had realised I had the camera on her :). I'm fairly happy with it apart from it looking like the brush is in her mouth.

Alright..most likely won't have any shots till sept so here is my last one. My little prince charming. If I would have known he'd actually take a nice shot I would of had a better background. He's getting the curls cut this weekend...needed a shot in!

kat, Prince Charming is very cute.

Nic: A couple of cute baby shots. I like the expression in the second shot... too bad the camera was scary :)
